Resolutions

 

A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE REVIVAL OF A MORE PROACTIVE RESPONSE TOWARDS THE NEEDS OF THE CITIZENS OF NORTH CAROLINA AND THEIR POSTERITY.

 

WHEREAS, The citizens of North Carolina deserve and expect government to address deep rooted frustrations in many counties around the need for fair and just policing practices, and the eventful improvement of socioeconomic conditions of all Americans,

WHEREAS, The concern for the quality of life for senior citizens, early childhood development programs and the needs of economically underserved population is largely abated, These citizens/ communities are defined as vulnerable populations that include the economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, the uninsured, low-income children, the elderly, the homeless, those with immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and those with other chronic health conditions, including severe mental illness,

WHEREAS, Despite the federal legislation that existed since 2000 to stop the commercial sexual exploitation of children, there are still over 300,000 children in the United States who are at risk of being victims of sexual exploitation and these children are typically as young as 12- 14 years old,

WHEREAS, According to American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the School-To-Prison Pipeline is a disturbing national trend wherein children are removed from public school and placed in juvenile and criminal justice systems, many with learning disabilities or histories of poverty, abuse or neglect, and would benefit from additional educational and counseling services,

WHEREAS, According to Brennan Center for justice, nearly 6 million American citizens are unable to vote because of past criminal convictions with as many as 4.4 million of these individuals work and raising families, according to Brennan Center for justice 13% of African American men have lost their right to vote. This statistic is seven times the national average, according to The Sentencing Project, 35 states have some type of voting prohibition for ex- offenders who are on probation, parole, or have completed their sentences,

RESOLVED, The Wayne County Democratic Party declares and supports candidates who likewise are committed to the removal and elimination of barriers and disparities of underserved populations.

RESOLVED, The Wayne County Democratic Party urges legislation that severely punishes those guilty of the crime of commercial sexual exploitation of children. We encourage legislation that recognizes this modern day slavery and does not treat the victims as a criminal of prostitution.

RESOLVED, The Wayne County Democratic Party advocates for legislative changes to remove criminal records for sixteen and seventeen year olds, and to have records expunged or not guilty for one time event within a twelve month period.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, The Wayne County Democratic Party advocates for legislation changes on the local and state levels to reduce the rates of elementary and secondary school children being suspended or expelled for perceived minor infractions  that could be handled by school administrations through mediation efforts/programs  versus the criminal justice system. We support efforts to enhance and protect the rights of all children to receive a free and appropriate education for the opportunity to improve the quality of life for future generations.

RESOLUTION REGARDING ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS AND THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

 

Whereas, the Wayne County Democratic Party is a duly established organization under the requirements of the State of North Carolina;

Whereas, the Wayne County Democratic Party is in good standing with the North Carolina Democratic Party;

Whereas, the citizens of Wayne County are among the poorest in the State;

Whereas, the Wayne County Democratic Party works for the benefit of all citizens of Wayne County; and

Whereas, many citizens of Wayne County benefit from several federally funded Entitlement Programs including Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and the Affordable Care Act; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the Wayne County Democratic Party:

  1. Urges the Wayne County Congressional delegation to support funding for Entitlement Programs benefitting the citizens of Wayne County;

  2. Urges the Wayne County Congressional delegation to strengthen Entitlement Programs benefitting the citizens of Wayne County;

  3. Urges the Wayne County Congressional delegation not to privatize Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; and

  4. Urges the Wayne County Congressional delegation to support amending Affordable Care Act rather than ending it.
